Hi Shourya,

Yes, having a good 10 th /12 th score is very important to get yourself admitted into a good B-School to pursue your MBA. A lot of aspirants every year dream of joining country’s best MBA colleges to pursue for their post-graduation. And rightly so, because of the immense competition and education becoming commercialised nowadays, it is required that one should get one’s MBA degree from a prestigious college to get the right worth for their investments. Hence an MBA degree from top B-Schools is a must for betterment of their career.

A lot of Tier 1 and Tier 2 MBA colleges give high importance to academics. Leading B-Schools such as IIMs give a weightage of 40% to academics. A percentage of around 80% is the minimum criteria in academics for top 5 IIMs. The reason why many B-Schools look at your astonishing academic record is that they look at how well you cope up with intense syllabus. Another criterion that top B-Schools look in a candidate is the consistency in their academic records. Hence, a B-School is more likely to intake a candidate with 80%, 85%, 87%, in 10 th , 12 th , and Undergrad than 60%, 70%, 90% respectively. If you want to get in top 10 then, more than 85 in 10th and 12th class and more than 80 percent in graduation is required because more than 80% marks will put you in good academic scale and then you will be left with CAT.

Don’t worry if your academics are not too good, there are many students who got into IIMs with low academics. Try to score at least 99.xx percentile to get into top IIMs. Many of the aspirants face this dilemma that can an average student get into IIMs? Yes, there are some IIMs that take the factor of excellent academic background at both school and college level, but there are other B-Schools like IIM Lucknow which doesn’t require their student’s intake to be absolutely nerd. Every IIM has a different set of calculation which they use to qualify students for their MBA program. For example, IIM Bangalore gives a high weightage to work experience than other factors and chart out a formula to make it as an eligibility criterion. Below is a table that shows how much a B-School weights a student’s academic record.

The above figures are for the year 2019. Though every year, this keeps changing but there hasn’t been a drastic change in the percentage.

There are many other private B-Schools which have a relaxed constraint over this. IIMs are tough with low academics as one has to then solely depend upon CAT scores, one can easily try their hands over other B-Schools with low academic requirements as shown below,

The above list is based on the Admission Criteria as of last year. These colleges have a high weightage on their entrance exams or the exams score that they consider for their intake for a particular year. Hence, instead of worrying about why you scored mediocre results in 10 th or 12 th concentrate on below mentioned points and be prepared to get a call from a leading B-School.

  • Identify your strengths and weakness and practice the areas that you are weak in
  • Make sure that your concepts are clear
  • Focus more on accuracy and try to avoid making silly mistakes
  • Remember that practice is the key to cracking the exam

All the very best!!

Hello there!

Greetings!

Yes class 10 th and 12th marks plays an important role in getting into good mba colleges.  And if your score is 90 % or more it increases your chances of getting into good colleges as points are there for class 10th and 12th marks.  For example,  In IIM Ahmedabad  rating score for class10 marks as 55% and above but below 60% marks will be awarded 1 point weightage. If the marks are 60% and above, weightage of 2 points will be awarded. Maximum weightage of 10 points will be awarded to 90% or above marks in class 10.If you belong to Science stream in class 12 and have scored below or 55% marks, weightage of 1 point will be awarded and marks between 55 to 60% will be awarded weightage of 2 points.

Students from commerce stream will get a weightage of 1 point even if they have scored 50% or less marks, this will increase to 2 points if the score is upto 55%. From 55% to 65% marks in class 12, the weightage points will go upto 3. However maximum weightage of 10 points will be awarded by IIM Ahmedabad, if you have scored 90% or above marks.

So , yes class 10 and 12th marks has a role in getting into good mba colleges.

Thankyou

Hello sourya.

It's not like that you mandatory have a to score very good marks in 10th and 12th. But yes these are very much important in most of the cases. Few top colleges have separate exams for admission. Some on the basis of graduation . But in general cases you have to deal with it at the time of interview.

Ok
