Many colleges in india take admission via mains but not all, every college has its own admission critiria.

Various colleges take your other exam's marks too especially the colleges which are affiliated with some self exam conducting universities. One of the biggest exam followed by jee is the comdek. 100s of south Indian colleges accept it's marks spc. colleges in Bangalore. Several colleges like VIT , BITS Pilani , UPES etc conducts their own exams and have nothing to do with your jee score.
