Originally founded as Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in 1964, it was later renamed Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) in 1996. The university has 11 colleges. At the end of ANGRAU's Gold Jubilee Year, it has given birth to a new Provincial University of Agriculture Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University on the division of the Province of Andhra Pradesh in terms of the Andhra Pradesh Reform Act 2014. ANGRAU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
