Is anyone studying genetic engineering in SRM university
Hii
Here is best opinon from a student
They focus a lot on research ..at least way better than the peer biotech colleges.
Its pretty worth it if you are joining here.
See as a former student of Genetic engineering, I can tell you one thing:
Gen engg field has a different language. You cannot think like a chemist or a normal biologist or a physicist. You need a dynamic place to learn how to think like a Genetic engineer when a situation arises. Its quite hard to think that professionally. For eg: how to develop methods for amplifying a gene in a CRISPR/Cas systemic plasmid etc. Which primers work well ? Do you ligate an external 5′UTR and 3′UTR for better amplification ?
Troubleshooting in any field is the most important . You need to develop brains for that
If you land up in GEN engg dept. Of SRM, it will expose you to all that. I cannot guarantee that you will become a pro in it, but if u r coming here for serious work, then ur maturity as a Biotech or Gen engg professional will be a bit ahead of the biotech students from other colleges.
If you are coming here into the Gen engg dept of SRM, your work ethics and knowledge is very important. Its not like the other EEE or some ECE field where you come here to make some girlfriends and boyfriends and then whine about your immaturity. They really mean work is work here.
Faculty and facilities are good. They won't judge you based on your ethnicity and all. Just dont show off here. Going for Aarush and Milan (Fests in SRM) may not gel well with your routine structure here. Not much people get time for that. The syllabus is well structured.
Though the schedule is a bit tighter for a B.Tech course, if you work hard properly, you can be well ahead of ur contemporaries.
Pls dont come into this dept thinking you can be some “DON”in the dept..Trust me…all such people have had their nemesis and apocalypse even before their 3rd year got finished.
Hope this helps
