No that is not true BDS has a lot of scope in India

Scope depends on our intrest and our goal. And I am someone who wish to stay in India and have a good practice. So I prefer to divide “ what after BDS” into 2;

Further studies

Practice

STUDY OPTIONS

First and foremost option for me is to attain a post graduation . You can join any college by qualifying an entrance exam like NEET, AIIMS,AIPG etc and state wise exams like COMEDK, KERALA entrance exam etc. Since for me 5 years of study period again followed by 3 years with less stipend is a concern, so I would suggest someone to grab a government seat,so that we can be independent as there is a fat payment during the study course.

Another option after pursuing an mds degree is doing a research, followed by achieving a Phd ,a good contribution to the advancement in dental science.

PRACTICE

Setting up a clinic : I guess this may be the only suggestion we get from non dentist folk. If money making is the prime intrest ( of course ! It is!) ,this is good choice. Scope depends totally on the practioner and the locality. The beginning may lag but there will be a hike when you get good at it.

Employed under : this includes working in some hospitals or clinics that we don't own,where we work as their staff. We will be given a fixed salary or a percentage of remuneration for the cases we do. This involves less risk and investment. But the amount that we get by the end of the month will be low.

Getting into government institutions : government services like railway, army have a seat for dentist just like they hold one for a physician, a pharmacist etc.

Entrance exams : Yes! Your academics are tested when government institutions choose you. Exams like UPSE exams are those dentist aim for these days.

Administration : grabbing an Administration degree is of use only an only if you are intrested. I have seen some dentist get an MBA degree for starting up a dental hospital,which I guess is of less importance,because MBA is not the only choice for administration.
