Is Biology compulsary in 12th for nest exam?
Hello,
The NEST (National Entrance Screening Test) Exam will consist of five sections.
Section I is the General section which is compulsory.
Section II-V (Subject Section) will consist of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology.
Only the best three scores of section II-V will be considered for the preparation of the Merit List of NISER and UM-DAE-CEBS.
But, to get admission to NISER and UM-DAE-CEBS you have to fulfill SMAS and MAP criteria. If you cannot fulfill these two criteria, you will not be eligible to get admission to both institutions in spite of you get extraordinary marks. If you want to know more about SMAS and MAP, follow the below-provided link.
Well, I am giving you a brief idea about SMAS (Section-wise Minimum Admissionable Score). For each section, ‘20% of the average of the best 100 scores in that section’ will be considered as SMAS. In easy language, you have to score a certain minimum mark in each section to eligible for admission.
For NISER admission, you have to score equal to or more than the respective SMAS in General Section as well as all Four Subject Sections.
For UM-DAE-CEBS admission, you have to score equal to or more than the respective SMAS in the General Section as well as in any of the Three Subject Sections.
Conclusion:
If you want to get admission to NISER, but, your biology is weak, still you have to study biology to qualify for the SMAS for the biology section. You have to correct 3–5 questions to qualify for the SMAS and your Merit Marks will be calculated with PCM.
If you want to get admission to CEBS, you need NOT study biology; You can qualify for the Nest exam with PCM.
