No, Biology is not necessary and compulsory in the IISER examination.




But problem is that as competition is increasing rapidly amongst the candidates. Hence,  scoring high is top priority of the students to get into IISER. As biology is not compulsory but it do effect on the total marks thats outs of 180.




Since the common subjects i.e. chemistry and physics are not that much tough that's why lot of candidates can score well in that. Hence, you will be expected to score well also in your specific subject whether it's biology or Maths.




In this scenario, to have edge over others you have to take some points from the biology to have advantage over others. Since biology section is anyway not that difficult (atleast not all the questions are tough), it is advisable to invest the last couple of months before the exam in reading up the NCERT 11th and 12th grade biology textbooks, or some online stuff ( I will mention link below ) ,so as to understand some of the essential concepts which will help you get atleast some questions right.




Its pretty much worth the effort, since its quite likely that with a decent prep (not too much) you should score reasonably well in bio. Hence, it would be advisable to go for the same, just to boost your own chances of getting an IISER of your choice.
