You would like to know that from year 2017-18 jadavpur university has started the option for first year students to change there branch in second year from this college.  So,  definitely you will be able to change your branch preference.  All you need to follow are some procedures given by this college and you are all set to have new branch accordingly.

In most engineering colleges you can change your branch of engineering in 2nd year. But depends on the availability of seats. If there are seats available in class then on performance basis students get to change there branches. I guess it has to be same in Jadavpur University as it happens in IITs as well.
