I am a student currently doing my second year in CEG. As you know anna University is one of the most prestigious Universities in India where students are accepted purely on merit and generally the people who join have really high ambitions and are hard working .The infrastructure is old and it is true that the institution is rebuilding itself with state of the art amenities. VIT Vellore is a private institution which has one of the best infrastructure but does not command the respect that Anna University gets. Since Anna University is directly opposite to IIT Madras their competitions and fests are easily accessible and frankly speaking placements are better.

I would like to say that, in any institute you may study, because every institutes have their own way of teaching, this is my view about institutes but if you want to know that which is better, then you should ask the individuals who is or who was studying in that institute.
You should focus on yourself and your study.
