Hey Bhaskar,
The thing is what you want to do, you have to do it. Compromising your career just to save a year is not really being intelligent. If you believe you have the perseverance and determination to devote a year of self study towards your particular subject of interest, then do it. Sometimes, it is necessary so that there are no regrets later on.
