Hello Aspirant

There has been a lot of questions raised in aspect to Economically Weaker Section Quota in medical colleges. Firstly, this quota has been implied on all the government medical colleges. This means that there will be an increase of about 3,000 seats in medical colleges as there are nearly 30,500 seats in 216 government medical colleges. For now., the increase is at 10%.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) through an official notice has issued a clarification on Economically Weaker Sections category admissions. The EWS category will be put into force from the academic year 2019-2020 in Medical, Dental, Pharmacy and Nursing institutions. Any candidate who is not a beneficiary of existing category reservation is eligible for admission under EWS category reservation.

There are eight institutions listed in the Schedule to the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act which have been exempted from the purview of EWS reservations. It includes the minority educational institution, institutes of excellence, research institutions, institutes of national and strategic importance. North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong also falls outside the ambit of EWS reservation.

Whether you are considered as Economically Weak or not, is based on the income and assets of your family. To come under EWS, you will need to satisfy all the criteria listed below.

· You are not availing the reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs.

· Your family* has a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh.

· Not having 5 acres of agricultural land and above.

· Not having a residential flat of 1000 sq ft. and above.

· Not having a residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities.

· Not having a residential, plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.

Hello Chanchal.

For all the government medical colleges of India EWS quota is applicable..

It doesn't matter whether it is KGMU or GSVM because it is under the control of government of India.

While in self financed colleges it doesn't work when you are taking admission through management quota..

Thanks  You..
