Is fine arts/physical education compulsory in grade 11?
Hello Aspirant,
It seems like you are curious regarding your 6th subject for your 10+2 studies. In CBSE 10+2 course, whether you opt for Humanities, Science or Commerce stream, you will have five major subjects and in some cases it's four. English is compulsory for all the streams. The 6th subject which is usually fine art, music, physical education, etc. is given to choose to a student for a safer option for their final examinations. Suppose, among your other 4/5 major subjects, you fail in one of them in your boards then the marks of the 6th subject will be replaced in the place of your low marks in the subject you failed. It's more like a parachute subject that would help you secure a good chance of not failing. Schools nowadays don't want their students to take a wild risk and thus have made these extra--curricular subjects compulsory. However, there are exceptions where students only study 4 subjects in their 10+2 but that varies from one school to another. Even if the board is same i.e. CBSE but the schools are given a chance of freedom to guide their students in subject selection. It would be better if you consult with the school authorities regarding the selection for a 6th subject which is an extra subject as a back up plan for your low marks in any subject.
I hope this information helps you. Good luck!
