Cells derived from the mesoderm , give rise to the heart and also all other tissues of the body, including the dermis of the skin, the muscle system, the urogenital system, the bones, and the bone marrow.

Cardiac progenitor cells are derived from the lateral plate mesoderm. Endothelium derived from mesoderm lines the blood and lymphatic vessels and the walls of the heart.
