I believe you should prefer IIT Bombay Metallurgical Engineering over Chemical at IITM and IIT Roorkee Civil. Of course only if IIT Madras is at vicinity of your hometown, do prefer that over IITB Metallurgical.

Placements and Research Prospects are not much of a concern when it comes to the top 5 IITs.

Metallurgical Engineering is perhaps the oldest and the newest branch of engineering in todays date. IIT Bombay Metallurgical Engineering ranks among the top 100 Global institutions in fields of Material Science according to QS Rankings. Companies like Tata Steel, Reliance, P&G, Airbus, TSMC and Applied Materials are regular recruiters at IIT Bombay Metallurgical Engineering.

Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras is too, a preferable choice. Companies visiting campus include Unilever, ITC, Dr Reddys and P&G.

Overall Materials and Chemical Engineers are required for functioning of any Core Manufacturing Industry. Both the branches refer to the Chemical Sciences arm of Engineering and have a huge scope in training , research and placements.Secondly both the above branches are very student friendly and have a structured curriculum which helps you to give time to your interests and practice technologies like AI, Software and Machine Learning besides keeping up with the core course. You might end up going for a Masters to the United States, might become an Operations Executive at a conglomerate like Tata or Vedanta or may become a Business Analyst or Software Engineer at an MnC like Amazon or RazorPay. Overall an IIT provides you with sea of opportunities and possibilities. Its your responsibility to cultivate your interests and nurture them to expertise.

Hello, it also depends on your interest for branch.
But in my opinion you should go with IIT Madras Chemical Engineering as IIT Madras is ranked first among all Engineering colleges of India in Nirf Engineering ranking 2020.

And most importantly all IIT are top colleges of India but chemical engineering is a very good branch and it has a good placement scope. Placement of IIT Madras Chemical Engineering in 2019 was in between
Rs. 4.8 lakhs to Rs.32 lakhs per annum.
For priority basis first IIT Madras then IIT Bombay then IIT Roorkee.
