Is it a good to take Psychology Degree. My ambition is IAS ??
Well you can take this subject as your optional subject as Psychology is an optional subject that is reasonably popular among IAS aspirants. It may not be as popular as history or public administration, but it still fares better than many other subjects. In 2015, a total of 1163 candidates had opted for this optional out of which 92 were recommended for the UPSC interview round. That gives it a success rate of 7.9% that year.
One thing to be keep in mind that If you dont have any interest in Psychology, it is better to keep off this subject as it may come across as vague.
Cheers !!
Hi Suhana !
First of all, this is to inform you that UPSC CS exam is such type of examination which you can crack through putting your devotion and hard work and does not really matter which stream you are coming from. But for better clarification, I would give you a brief idea about UPSC CS syllabus division.
As per IAS syllabus and question pattern, if you take Psychology Degree, it will only help you as a MAINS Optional subject. Rather, if your ambition is IAS, I would suggest you to take Political Science or Law or Economics. This is because, most of the General Studies Portion in IAS prelims and mains will cover Polity, Economics and Current Affairs including Schemes, Yojanas and Legal Issues and rest will include Science and Technology.
