Is it beneficial to do practice for competitive coding if I know that I will to go for M.Tech through GATE exam ? Or should I spent time in competitive coding OR should I prepare for GATE exam ?
You can go for both GATE exam preparation along with competitive programming. GATE exam syllabus consists of all the core subjects of computer science for CSE. One of the subjects of GATE syllabus is data structures and algorithms. These are very important topics and have a high weightage in the exam.
Competitive programming requires a lot of investment in practice in coding and thorough knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
If you are good in competitive programming, your data structures and algorithms skills would be good and this would help a lot in your GATE preparation.
Moreover, for applying for internships during your 4 years BTech, you need to apply for companies where the screening is done through a coding round. Good grasp over competitive programming can help you crack those rounds and bag a good Internship.
All the best.

Hi,
It all depends on your goal and surely the interest. If your aim is to get a good private job, you're good to go for competitive coding. But if your aim is either to do M.Tech. or to get a job in PSUs, you must prepare for GATE. Now if you want to have both options in your hand, mark your priorities. Just know that what's important to you and then spend your time accordingly.
Thank you.
