Hello Stuti

Hope you are doing well.

Answering to your question, Firstly I should mention that I am too an Economics Hons. student of Delhi University.

Yes, it is compulsory to add Mathematics in the best four for this course. Other than Mathematics, English is another compulsory subject to be added. The rest 2 remaining subjects depends upon the stream  you have chosen in class 12th.

The reason Delhi University has made it compulsory to have Mathematics in the best 4 is that, Economics at graduate level is completely different to what we have studied in class 12th. It is alot more complex and technical. A mathemaics background helps us to deal with it with a lot more ease. Core subjects like Mathematics Methods of Economics involve Mathematics in First year and Core Statistics in Second Year need a strong mathematical base.

Hope I was helpful to you. Thanks for Connecting with career360. We are always available to help you.

All the best for your future.

I think you should wait for the lists that Delhi University shall anounce after registration processes are over. Once the lists are out , It will help you figure out what colleges are offering Economics hons at your respective percentage. Thanks and All the best

I checked online and it varies from college to college in Delhi University. For example. In Hindu, you just need to pass in mathematics and not necessarily include it in your best of four. Same goes for Hansraj

Hey Stuti,

Yes, in 2016 it was announced that Maths is compulsory if you wish to do Economics Hons in Delhi University.

Regarding the best of 4, if you have 6 subjects and Maths if your 6th subject then you can exclude Maths from best of 4 subjects but if you have 5 subjects and Maths is one of them then you have to consider it too.

I hope this helps you, good luck!

Hi Stuti,

Yes, if you are opting for economic honors in Delhi University, you have to include Mathematics in your best four subjects. Your best four subjects should consist of one language, economics, maths and any other list A subject according to DU. It is very clear as Mathematics has a crucial role in economics.

Wish you all the best.
