Hello Vipashyna,
I hope you are doing good.
As you have asked is it compulsory to appear for both JEE Mains exams?
No , it is not compulsory to attempt both papers. If you are interested in B.tech then you have to go for paper 1 and if you are interested in B.arch then you have to appear for paper 2.
And If you are asking is it compulsory to give JEE Mains twice?
As per the new rule, the NTA JEE Mains is going to be conducted twice a year. NO, it is not necessary to qualify both exams. You can appear for both the exams and the best out of both scores will be considered for admission.
I hope this information will help you. Good luck in the future!

Greetings!
- No , it is not compulsory to appear in both January and april session of Jee mains.
- It totally depends upon students, they can appear in both sessions of jee mains or any one of the two sessions; it is entirely dependent on your choice.
- In case if you appear in both the January and april session of Jee mains, then your best score out of these two attempts will be considered for admission.
I will suggest you to give both the sessions of jee mains , so that even if you are not able to score good marks in January session, you will get an idea of the paper pattern and what kind of questions are asked and you will get to know about your weak areas and then you can work on them and can score good marks in jee mains april session. Good luck for your jee preparation.
Thankyou
No, its not important for a candidate to appear in both jee.You can attempt either one of them or both of them according to your choice . But the smartest options is to appear in both exams because if you will not be able to score well in one exam then you will have another chance.
I hope this helps.
