Not at all.BARC organise it's separate Exam irrespective of GATE.
It shortlists the students by two means, one by GATE score and another by performance in BARC exam. While filling in application form you can choose any one or both. Choosing both will gives you better chance. Suppose you don't perform well in one , there is chances to get through another.
