IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria mandates candidates to hold a Bachelors Degree. Candidates belonging to General/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) category must have at least 55% aggregatein Bachelors. The marks secured include all the subjects studied at the graduation level, without rounding off the marks.

There is no as such criteria of inclusion of maths whether studied in 12th or not.

The syllabus for the biotechnology paper of IIT-JAM comprises of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. While the questions in Bology and Chemistry are asked from 10+2+3 level, questions from Mathematics and Physics are asked from 10+2 level. The syllabus for mathematics is:

Sets, Relations and Functions, Mathematical Induction, Logarithms, Complex numbers, Linear and Quadratic equations, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Cartesian System of Rectangular Coordinates, Straight lines and Family, Circles, Conic Sections, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Exponential and Logarithmic Series, Mathematical Logic, Statistics, Three Dimensional Geometry, Vectors, Matrices and Determinants, Boolean Algebra, Probability, Functions, limits and Continuity, Differentiation, Application of Derivatives, Definite and Indefinite Integrals, Differential Equations.

As these topics are taught in 10+2 level, it is necessary to have mathematics in class 12.
