Yes, NEET is compulsory for getting admission in Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
For getting admission in BHU in BAMS course you have to fulfill the Eligibility criteria .
BHU select there candidates on the basis of National eligibility cum Entrance test (NEET ) conducted by by National Testing Agency for Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicines and Surgery (BAMS).
Eligibility :- The Candidate must pass intermediate 12th s tandard with physics , chemistry and Biology course, or Equivalent examination with minimum 50% marks (40% required for SC/ ST students).
The candidate must have Biology as a compulsory subject.

Yes, Be it BHU or any other college, to get admission in Bams you must qualify Neet examination.
This is because,
Neet is the single gateway for admission in all the medical colleges be it private or government including AIIMS and JIPMER for following courses
MBBS
BDS
Ayush courses( Ayurveda i. e BAMS , Unani i.e B. U. M. S, Siddha i. e BSMS, and Homeopathy i.e BHMS ) and
veterinary i. e BVSc. . ( neet is mandatory for only all india quota bvsc seats offered through AIPVT counselling, as some states also have their own entrance like RPVT in Rajasthan for state quota seats ).

----------------------) Appear in Neet examination
To be eligible for neet one must be either appearing for 12th board examination or should have passed 12th board examination with physics, chemistry ,biology/biotechnology and English and must have got at least 50 % in aggregate of PCB i.e Physics, Chemistry and Biology /biotechnology in 12th examination if belongs to general category , or at least 40% in aggregate of PCB if belongs to Obc/ Sc /st category. ------------------------) Qualify neet examination. Qualifying cut off in neet is given below
General :- 50th Percentile
OBC:- 40th Percentile
SC :-40th Percentile
ST :- 40th percentile
To be on the safer side, target around 500 + marks for BAMS in a government college if you are from general category.
---------------------) Participate in neet counselling. There are 2 counsellings -
Ayush counselling by AYUSH Admission Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) :- It is conducted for 15% AIQ seats,
state counselling for 85% state quota seats
