No,it is not mandatory to clear both.Candidates with a valid GATE score with qualifying marks in relevant discipline in Engineering/Technology,need not appear for TANCET.However candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks in Engineering Science(XE) and Life Science (XL) will definitely have to appear for TANCET 2019.

Hi Vignesh!Yes ,you can straight away write TANCET. You would be admitted without appearing for GATE. But one thing to remember.TANCET exam is valid only for a few colleges that are affiliated to Anna University whereas GATE is acceptable by most colleges .Best Wishes!
