Hello Mohit,
IITs are the topmost and most renowned technical institutes of India. Every engineering student utilise his all energy and give his/ her entire blood and sweat to get into IITs. It is not just a college but a very high class brand.
If you want to get admission into IITs then you have to clear two exams namely JEE main and JEE advanced and after having a very high rank in JEE advanced you can expect a seat in IIT. It is not a easy task to get into IITs.
Though there is no such criteria that you have to bring 80% marks in English in board exams . The only criteria to appear for JEE advanced and get selected for a IIT is that the candidate must have scored 75% or above in the 10+2 examination or its equivalent.
It is just said that to improve your 10+2 results you should score good marks in English as it is very easier comparative to other subjects and can help you to easily increase your 10+2 score and thus helps in getting 75% or more.
Else it is not necessary to score 80% marks in English if your other subjects is strong enough to bring you good marks. Though one must not fail in English if he wants to get into IIT.
Hope this helps.
Further if any queries feel free to ask.
All the best!!
