Dear Sheikh,

If you do not get a good college in the first attempt but you wish to crack CAT or XAT, you should surely take a gap year.

A gap year will provide you enough of time and opportunity to prove yourself. You need to work very hard and try your best to get into your dream college. You should be confident enough and focus on your preparation. You should make a good time table during this gap year.

Other things to do in a gap year:

1. Do MOOCS courses on relevant subjects to improve your preparation.

2. Contribute articles to different magazines.

3. Do some NGO work.

4. You can also start your own private tuition centre. Make sure to register it so that you can add it to your CV.

5. Do internships to gain work experience.

These can surely help you to justify your gap year.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Hey Aspirant,

Hope you are doing great,

As you want to know the preparation tips to prepare for the CAT/XAT exam.

  • Learn the ABCs: Master the fundamentals of Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude.
  • Determine your own Strengths and Weaknesses: Go over the CAT Syllabus in its entirety and begin categorizing topics based on their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Concentrate on the most important issues.

While the CAT surprises almost every year, there is some consistency in terms of the topics tested. According to previous formats RC will cover roughly 70% of the VARC section, while DI and LR will be evenly distributed in the DILR section. The most frequently tested topics in QA are Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry. This is something you should keep in mind as you work on your CAT preparation.

Every year there are quite a good number of students, who take drop of 1 year after graduation for the preparation of the entrances such as CAT. Now if you are on of those type, then you can obviously take the drop year provided you must keep practicing problem and start your preparation basic to be strong so that firstly your rank is good. Now if you want to justify the time period, then you can join some internship programs and can justify that you have tried to gain industrial knowledge. Apart from this you can 1 year certificate courses which can be justified as skill gaining year. So this way you can justify it, if you do nothing but you score good then you also your gap year is justified. So don't worry about this kind of problem.
