Is it possible for a commerce background (BA, BBA) or a non- engineer student to take admission into any of the IITs or NIT for MBA/PGDM course after clearing CAT or MAT?

Yes, you can get admission in IIT even if you are from non engineering background.

To be eligible
-) you must have a bachelor's degree Bachelor's degree in any discipline
-) you must have got at least 60% marks or 6 CGPA out of 10 cgpa in your graduation. In case of for the SC or ST or PwD candidates, a minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA in graduation is required to be eligible
-) those who are in the final year of their graduation are also eligible provisionally

Yes, there are many IITs and NITS offering PGDM or MBA courses to students. The seats are open for all stream students who have qualified CAT or relevant entrance exams. So, yes even if you are from non engineering background still you can get into these colleges for MBA/PGDM course if you qualify the cut off and other rounds of selection.
