Ok there's a simple thing you need to understand about competitive exams. It's not so much about what you can do but rather, what performance you produce in the final exam relative to the others.

Some people slog a lot for many years but due to certain factors (a lot of it related to luck and uncertainty) they're unable to realize their desired goals. Conversely there have been cases of people cracking these exams with the bare minimum knowledge too.

Frankly speaking just studying seriously for one month and cracking a national exam, when others have devoted years and years of their lives to that very purpose, would be a really damn hard thing to pull off…But it's not impossible.

If one were to have solid understanding of all the basic concepts, if they would be willing to really grind it out in order to make up for the time they lost and most importantly if they truly had the desire to achieve their goals, then there's no reason to say they will fail in their endeavor.
