hello thanusrinarsing
I hope you are doing good .I would like to know that getting admission in IIT's is not easy . Ranks of jee mains and jee advanced exams are evaluated depending on marks scored in both the exams . For appearing in jee advanced , you must clear atleast the cutt off jee mains exam . If you have scored good in jee main rank and not perfomed well in advanced ,then it would be very difficult to get admission in IITs. however you go into nits with jee main rank.
you can use JEE-Main College Predictor to predict your chances of admission in different engineering colleges of India :-

Hope you found this answer helpful. Good luck for your future
hello aspirant,
It is not possible to get into iit with jeemains rank. you need to qualify jeemains first to write jee advanced exam.and if you fetch a good rank in jee advanced i.e if you qualify the admission cutoff for jee advanced then you will have chances to fetch seat in iit. basically there are two cutoffs one is qualifying cutoff an other is admission cutoff.qualifying cutoff makes you just qualify for the exam but not guarantee you to fetch a seat.however admission cutoff is the cutoff for fetching the seat.so the process goes this way, first give jeemains exam qualify the cutoff according to different categories as below:
gen category:90-95
gen ews:70-75
obc ncl:70-75
sc:50-55
st:40-45
pwd:1-2
note that these cutoffs change every year due to may factors like total students appearing for exam, difficulty level of paper etc,so they keep changing every year however the above analysis is based on previous year data.now if you qualify these then you wll be eligible to give jee advanced.now a rank below 6000 can fetch you a seat approximately based on past year trends in iits irespective of branch.
to get information about all other iits cutoffs for previous year refer to: https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-advanced-cutoff
hope this helps,
thankyou.

No, you cannot get a seat in IITs on the basis of your rank in JEE main.
This is because,
Admission in IITs is solely on the basis of rank obtained by you in JEE advanced examination but yes to be eligible for JEE advanced examination you need to qualify JEE main first.
