Hello,

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Friday, 17 July announced that the basic criteria of scoring at least 75% marks or ranking among the top 20 percentile in class 12 board exams for admissions in IITs has been relaxed for this year, since many examinations could not be conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The minister took to Twitter to make the announcement.

There is no official confirmation on this news. It seems that IITs can drop this criteria of getting at least 75% (65% for reserved category) aggregate marks in 10+2 or be in top 20 percentile of the respective board. This is because this year all the exams were not conducted and so the marks will be given on the basis of internal assessments and previous results. So many of the students won't get their desired marks. This decision will help many students but the authority have to think about all its pros and cons before taking any decision. Until and unless the results of all boards are out and the authority announces this officially, anything can happen.
