NO , JEE is not compulsory for engineering as there are many other state level , separate university examinations like BITSAT , COMEDK , VITEEE , MHTCET , WBJEE etc for engineering courses but if you want admission in NITs , IITS ,IIITs and many other top government engineering colleges JEE Mains and JEE Advanced is your only examination available .
Also most of the universities which conducts their own entrance also provide admission based on JEE examination so you must attempt JEE if you want a good engineering college .

Yes JEE is specifically for engineering and architecture. If you want to become an engineer then JEE is compulsory . Through JEE you can get into the best colleges in India. But, also Jee is not compulsory for some engineering private colleges like SRM, VIT, COMEDK, LPU as they takes their own entrance test for admission no matters what you scored in JEE.
IIT JEE exam which consists of JEE Main and JEE Advanced is one of the most important entrance exams for engineering aspirants . The exam is held for candidates who are aspiring to pursue a career in the field of engineering and technical studies. Besides, the JEE exam is the gateway to some of the various prestigious engineering colleges (both government and private) in India. Those who qualify the JEE Main exam will be eligible to seek admission in some of the top colleges as these institutions accept the scores of the exam. There are 2 level of this exam, firstly, you need to clear JEE MAINS which will help you get a good NIT COLLEGE and then you've to go through the 6 Hours of JEE ADVANCED and if you clear the cut off, you're into an IIT.
