JEE isn't compulsory for getting an admission into a normal b.tech college, but it is compulsory id you want to get into an NIT/IIIT/IIT/GFTI.
Hello,
No, JEE Main isn't compulsory for pursuing BTech/BE, the reason being JEE Main is conducted at national level, and its scores are accepted by NITs, GFTIs, IIITs, IIT( that is its admission is based on JEE Advanced but prior to it you have to qualify JEE Main), and other than this there are many colleges which accept JEE Main scores for admission of bachelor of engineering, but there are other options also such as BITS Pilani conducts BITSAT, VIT conducts VITEEE, SRM University conducts SRMJEEE etc, these exams are conducted by respective universities, there are also state level entrance exams such as WBJEE, COMEDK, KCET, MHT CET, AP EAMCET, TS EAMCET to name a few, you can visit our page as follows for more detailed information regarding this:

This free eBook covers JEE Main important chapters & topics to study just 40% of the syllabus and score up to 100% marks in the examination.
See JEE MAINS rank are widely taken in many colleges apart from NIT's. So if you secure a moderate rank then also you have a good chance to get seats in private colleges or other colleges that accept the JEE MAINS score. But its not compulsory. You may not give the JEE examination and can give other examinations such as State Engineering entrances like MHT CET, WBJEE, COMEDK etc or private engineering entrances such as BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEE etc. So JEE MAINS isn't compulsory but if you prepare well for JEE MAINS then you will get a advantage in other examination even though if you can't clear JEE MAINS because JEE MAINS is tougher than the state engineering entrances. So preparing for it will give you some additional edge.
