Is maths is important to become an IPS officer ?
Maths comes under CSAT paper. Csat is of qualifying nature. Take this sentence from me.
You need 66+ marks out of 200 for CSAT (GS Paper 2)
To clear IAS prelims, you need at-least66 marks out of 200 for CSAT (GS Paper 2), however high are your marks in GS Paper 1.
The Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II).The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type. The marks in prelims will not be counted for final ranking, but just for qualification for the main exam.
IPS officer is based on the rank earned in civil servicese examinations.

As per the eligibility criteria for qualification category for IPS, a candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree from any of the universities recognised by the UGC or possess an equivalent qualification. So, Mathematics is not important for IPS Officer examination.
