Rather than calling it tough, I would say that its different.

All our life we were taught maths this way.

1. Get to know a new concept or formula.
2. Understand it.
3. Solve problems.
4. Get the answer.

The mathematics in M&C follows a different methodology.

1. Get to know a new concept , theory or formula.
2. Understand it.
3. Solve problems.
4. Write full solution with all steps.
5. Get the answer.

The bold line shows the main focus area. Talking exclusively about JEE, the main focus is always on how to get the answer first, “procedure gaya bhaad mein”.

The maths that we are made to study in M&C is highly analysis and proof based. You can even say that college maths is like learning numbers again from scratch. There is hardly any similarity from the past except basic addition, subtraction , division , multiplication and a few more things. The main focus is not on answer now but how well you analyse, comprehend and write it on paper.

This is the only reason why it sounds tough because after 18–19 years of life, we get to know what actually mathematics is and I am glad that I am one of those lucky ones. :)
