Since its foundation in 1961, Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science, and Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics (Autonomous) have been envisioned as a destination for the most brilliant and promising students. The college includes 32 departments, 16 of which are postgraduate and 10 of which provide Ph.D. programmes. It has long advocated for an admissions process that favours deserving students regardless of their financial circumstances. Through the pathways of critical thinking, a professional work ethic, and the resolve to be accountable, the college instils qualities that equip a student for academic achievement. The academic year 2018-19 has been marked by several achievements, including the University of Mumbai's BEST COLLEGE AWARD. INDIA TODAY RANKING Science and Commerce faculty is ranked first, followed by Arts faculty. Mithibai College has also been awarded Rs.1.5 crores in funding from the Indian government's DST-FIST and DBT-Star College programmes. This year is also significant. Without an actual inspection by an expert committee, the UGC has granted Grade 1 AUTONOMY for a term of ten years. It is a private , autonomous college with 22 courses.
