Course Structure: Course structure is good (needs some upgradation). There are more courses on Power Engineering (e.g. Power Systems, Machines, Drives etc.). So if you are a electronics, VLSI design,embedded systems, hardware programming freak, then it’ll be better if you join ECE. Still, you can have 6 electives in your senior year for quenching your thirst of learning out-of-the-box subjects. There are few labs which focus on MATLAB, which is a very good thing.

Faculty: Faculties are good & qualified. But they are more strict then any other department in NIT Silchar.

Attendance Criteria: 75% attendance is a must for most of the courses in EE. The department is the most strict in this regard.

Placements: Present scenario is not so exciting for EE on campus. Few people gets selected in PSUs. But no. of students placed in core areas is less. Nevertheless, we hope that more no. of PSUs will visit NITS in coming days.

Infrastructure & Labs: Infrastructure of NIT Silchar is pretty good in NIT standards (read Awesome !). Labs are of okay quality for UG BTech courses.

Bottom line: If you are sincere & very hardworking, then you can shine. But if you want to chill, then EE is not certainly a good choice.

There are limited job opportunities for Electrical Engineering in NIT Silchar.

I’ll try to categorize them as follows:

The Lottery : These are the jobs in Public Sector Companies (PSUs). You need fair amount of luck to enter into those jobs. But they are very less in no. Usually 10–20 people every year. expected package 9–13 LPA or 6–7 LPA(for mini ratna companies)

Finance & Analytics : These are usually financial,data analysis, technical analysis or business analysis jobs. Package is 4–8 LPA.

Yes I’m talking about the IT jobs (TCS, Infosys, IBM , Accenture etc.). If you are having your CPA 6+ by the end of 3rd year, you can be somewhat sure of such jobs. Package 2.9–3.3 LPA.

Khata Wale : These are business executive, managerial, sales executive jobs. Package 3.5–6 LPA.

So typically the above are the job opportunities, over the years. There may be one or more category (like Core Electrical, Power sector), but such jobs are very rare. So I exempted myself from writing them as a category of jobs.
