Hello Sia Roy,

Both organizational and clinical psychology are two of the most successful fields of psychology. They differ in the areas in which they focus and the work they do.

What are the pre-requisites for courses in Organisational Psychology and Clinical Psychology:

  • In order to pursue a specialisation in organisational-industrial psychology or clinical psychology you need to have done your Bachelor's in Psychology from a recognised university. There are very few colleges, not in India but abroad, which give you specific Bachelor's in Organisational Psychology or Clinical Psychology courses.
  • In order to be eligible you will need to have done your 12th from a recognised board or institution. You will then have to independently apply to universities and colleges offering this course and then clear their individual written examinations and personal interview rounds.
  • After this in your post-graduation you can choose to do a specialisation in either organisation-industrial psychology or clinical psychology or any other specialisation you might seem to like during the course of your Bachelor's.

Scope of Organisational Psychology:

  • You will be working in industrial and organisational sectors in positions which will deal with employee training, worker productivity, human-computer interactions, human reasources, assesments etc.
  • You will also be assessing the organisation with its policies and practices to make it more productive and efficient.
  • You will work in private as well as governmental agencies to maintain the working harmony. You will be employed in sectors revolving around management, health practices, education etc.
  • It is a diverse sector where you will have opportunities in a number of areas including private, public, government, education, management etc.
  • Some domains in which you will need to be skillful in order to pursue a career in this sector include social psychology, personality psychology, statistics, experimental psychology etc.
  • In order to be comfortable in this sector, you need to be comfortable with research and statistics, management and business. In this sector you will work more with groups and organisations. If you are comfortable with working on a one to one basis with people then clinical psychology will be a better choice for you.

Scope of Clinical Psychology:

  • This course deals with diagnosis, assessment, prevention and treatment of mental disorder. However, clinical psychologists are not doctirs, they do not have the right to prescribe medicines.
  • Specialities with this field include child mental health, learning disabilities, adult mental health, marital problems, emotional disturbances, geriatrics, substance abuse, health psychology etc.
  • Clinical psychologists are trained to work in hospitals, academic settings, or private practices. They are aware of various therapies and tests in order to dignose and treat their clients. They need to keep a record of diagnosis, client assessment, therapeutic goals, and treatment notes to trach their progress.
  • In order to be a successful clinical psychologist you need to possess excellent communication skills, you need to be creative with your treatment plan and approches. It is a very demanding field, however it is also very rewarding.
  • You will help other individuals to overcome their problems which is extremely rewarding psychologically and not materialistically.

I would suggest that before you choose a field, you volunteer or do interships with organisations which specialise in these fields. By doing so you will gain experience and moreover you will also gain clarity as to what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. You will gain clarity on as to what you see yourself doing.

All the best!

I hope this answers your queries.

Do revert back in case of any further doubts.

Whereas, Clinical psychology focuses on diagnosing and treating mental, behavioral and emotional disorders. It may include : depression, anxiety, eating disorders, etc. Clinical psychology is more clincal knowledge based. It includes preventing, understanding and relieving the psychologically based dysfunction or distress.
