hey,
this is a moajor issue. engineers thinking of placements!
the key point is companies look for people who develops skill and learn faster. above average students in a class do get placed. its all about self learning before placements. and mechanical has a vast scope, you won't get dissapoint. salary is dependent on how skillfull you are.

Yes of course starting salary is low but after some years , after gaining experience and knowledge, you get good amount of salary
