To become a chef, you can choose any subject in 9th and 10th. If you wish to opt Maths and Economics, you can choose it. However, the most basic educational qualification needed to be a chef is to complete a 2-year or 4-year culinary arts programme. You can choose courses like pastry preparation, culinary techniques or any other topic.

If you wish to become a Chef professionally through a degree then there are courses from undergraduate to phd offered in India. Starting with Bachelors in Culinary Science along with others such as Diploma in food & beverage service, Diploma in bakery & confectionery, Diploma in kitchen management, Diploma in bakery & patisserie, Diploma in culinary arts
Eligibility criteria for Bachelor in Culinary Arts is as follows:
Applicants who are seeking admission in the three year BA in Culinary Arts must have cleared 12th examination with a minimum percentage of 55%. Besides this, candidates belonging from other reserved categories must have scored a minimum percentage of 45-50%. The minimum percentage limit will be set by the selected committee.
This does not mention the subjects only an aggregate, therefore you can opt for any subjects you like in 10th as well as in 12th.
