Recently due to the current pandemic MHRD has recently relaxed the eligibility criteria for admission into NITs and also for appearing for JEE Advanced. Before this, students had to score 75% minimum in boards(65% for ST/SC/OBC) or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards to be eligible for appearing for JEE Advanced or also to get admission into NITs IIITs and GFTIs.
But due to the pandemic scenario these eligibility criteria are relaxed. Students just need to just have a pass certificate from their boards.
Please note that this decision is only valid for he current year 2020 admissions.

For getting into NITs you need to get good rank in JEE Mains but for getting into IITs you need to write JEE ADVANCED also for writing JEE Mains you need to pass 10+2 which is eligibility criteria for writing JEE Mains and for writing JEE Advanced you should have scored a minimum of 75 percent of score in 10+2 board examination for more Information visit the below mentioned links
