If you are downloading the marksheet from internet then there will be no signature of principal of the concerned school. But for the main marksheet which is issued by the school different boards have different rules. As in cbse board some schools have signature while some school doesn't. You can ask the passout students of your school for the correct information. That is no nessecity. Hope this helps. Good wishes!

class 12th marksheet must be signed by the controller of the examination and the name of the school passed out from is duely mentioned.

the provisional certificate must be signed by the principal of the school.

if the university asks for the principal signature you can get it attested by him/her.

On the marksheet, no! But you should get it done on your provisional certificates, transfer certificate, etc.
