Hello Safalta,  O ne can either pursue a three-year law course (LLB) after graduation in any discipline or a five-year course after 12th class examinations, leading to a BA LLB (Hons). The duration of a graduate program is 3 years and an LLB course after that would be another 3 years. Hence those who have decided to pursue law as their career take advantage of the BA LLB combination course and hence save an year. The LLB course is sponsored by the Bar Council of India. The BA LLB programme usually covers practical training including court attendance, hands on training at legal aid centres and research projects. To be able to practise, it is mandatory to put in a year’s internship.

This may be done during the course of the final year. A P.G. Programme in law (LLM) is of 2 years duration and the eligibility is LLB degree. There are various branches of specialisation in law like civil law, criminal law, corporate law, income tax law, international law, labour law, constitutional law, and patent law etc. which could be taken up in the Post graduate program. It is not necessary to pursue an LLM but a PG will open up more job prospects for you. You cannot pursue an LLM soon after a graduation in any subject other than an LLB. The Bachelor of Laws is an undergraduate, or bachelor, degree in law offered as the primary law degree. This is offered after a graduation. It was established as a liberal arts degree which requires that the student undertake a certain amount of study of the classics, but has developed into a more specialized professional degree in recent years.
