Hey,
That is a very interesting and pressing question all engineering aspirants have to consider. There are many engineering colleges these days with very many seats. Also, the time is gone where people only chose either engineering or medicine. With more importance given to other subjects engineering is not that sought after. However, there are still many engineering graduates. Most of them are talented but it hard to find a job because its very competitive. so, the college where you studied matters a lot. It might be the element that helps you to stand out.
Opportunities
Once you graduate from a good engineering college there are many options. It is still a good field provided you have good credentials. The scope also varies according to the branch that you take. Engineering is one field where there are many branches and each has its own practical importance. A great way of landing a job is campus placements. While applying to a college what you have to consider is their placement rates and the companies that come to recruit. The top colleges in India have great multinational companies coming for recruitment like Infosys, google etc. Some colleges even have foreign recruiters. Off campus placements are also a great way of getting a job.
Masters
Your scope and opportunities increase after masters. With masters you can narrow down your field of work and get jobs that lets you apply your core subject. Masters in India mostly depends on your rank in the entrance test GATE. If you have a really good gate score you will directly get recruited to some of the great public sector undertakings in India. After masters you can take a phd and pursue research. Another option is teaching, you can appear for an entrance and join colleges as lecturers.

A friend of mine graduated from one of the top engineering colleges in kerala and went on to take her masters from Indian institute of space and technology. She got placed with Mercedes Benz and currently works as an engineer in their research and development team. This shows that engineering still has a lot of scope provided you study in a good college with merit and get a good cgpa.
Hi student,
Yes of course there still is scope for engineers. It all depends on the way you look at it. After graduating in an engineering course, you can go for higher studies like M.Tech and Ph.D which will help you get either in research field or in teaching field, depending on your interest. You can give gate examination and based on its score you can get into power sector or engineering services. There are also new projects coming up in engineering field these days like metro, railway, power plants, etc.
So you can go for engineering course if it interests you.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.
