Yes, you can dedicate yourself to study of mythology and research in history and humanities. Mostly opportunitues are limited to working as a Professor or with Organizations like the Archaeological Survey Of India or the Ministry Of Culture. UPSC organizes a exam annually to recruit candidates to positions in the Above Organization.
You may start your academics with a B.A in History/Humanities/Sanskrit/Psychology/Language Studies (Preferably History) followed by a Masters in History or a Doctoral Degree in Future, incase you aspire to join an Institute as a Professor.
