Since 2002, when (TIFR) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was designated as a declared university by the University Grants Commission (UGC), it has been able to confer its own degrees. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluated the university in 2016 and gave it an A+.
