CLAT is an entrance exam for admission in five year Integrated course of law like BA LLB, BCOM LLB, BBA LLB etc. These 5 year Integrated courses combine an undergraduate degree like BA, BCOM, BBA etc with law. Normally it would take 6 years to complete it separately and now it would take 5 years. If you have already pursued graduation degree separately then you'll have to go for 3 year LLB. CLAT is only for 5 year law and not 3 year. For that you'll have separate entrances.
The scope of a career in law is very wide. There are various number of fields that you can enter after this. Also , CLAT is an entrance exam by which you can get admission into all the National Law Universities In India except NLU Delhi. Thus, if you get a good rank in CLAT you will get admission in of the top institutes of Law like NLS bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, NLIU Bhopal, NLU Jodhpur, NUJS Kolkata etc. Hence your scope of career will be very vast.
There are various fields that you can enter
Corporate Field- Most of the top tier NLUs have on campus placements. Various top law firms, Multi National companies, Private companies like AZB Partners, Amarchand and Mangaldas, Trilegal, Surana and Surana, Dua and Associates, Khaitan, Luthra and Luthra and many tops Multi National companies like KPMG etc also place students. The packages offered to students of top tier NLUs are very attractive. Many times foreign Law firms and MNCs have also placed students. Hence if you are interested in the corporate sector of Law, cracking CLAT and getting into a top NLU should be your aim. Not all colleges provide good placements,Though there are Non NLUs with good placements too.
Career opportunities in other fields like litigation, judiciary, further masters etx remain similar to that of colleges not under CLAT. Other important exams for 5 year law can be- AILET, LSAT, SLAT,MHCET etc
