Hello aspirant,
It depends on you are talking about on campus placements or off campus placements.lets first talk about on campus placements what happens is if you are from tier 1 or tier 2 colleges lets say 100 tech companies approach your college then 100 tech compaies allow cse and IT stream students to sit in the placements where as only 70-80% of tech companies allow ece students to sit in the placemnts like IT stream has 90-95% companies chances comparitively.
Now off campus if you are from not that reputed college doesnt matter which branch you chose see because if the college is not that reputed you wont be having good tech companies approaching your college.even if they come you will have low packages. so its better you chose IT if if disclaimer if you want to go to private sector.if you want to aproach tp government sector you can chose ece.these days students with no degree are aceing like a pro in coding and skills and fetching jobs!so doesnt matter what branch you are until and unless you are from not that reputed college.but if youare from reputed college make sure you dont miss the opurtunity try on campus placemnts so you dont have to search for seeking companies.
Thankyou
Hey Aspirant,
If you strictly have to choose between these two branches in the Indian academic system, go for IT if you want to be ‘closer’ to a CSE program. The IT program though contains courses encompassing the management and commercial aspects of the industry, you’ll still get the minimum or even more coursework required for a career as a Software Developer or Computer Scientist in the future.
ECE is what you get in a traditional EE program at the IITs curricula-wise, minus some advanced courses and those pertaining to heavy/power/systems/high-voltage engineering.
There is no question of better - both will teach you analytical skills - though IT will give you an edge in terms of campus placements in a tier-2/3 engineering college in India. But again if you can write code or learn to write code while not being a CS/IT major, you won't end up broke when the dust settles.
All the Best!!!
