After a person gets a job, no one would give him a booklet and ask him to fill the pages, and pay his salary based on that. He will be required to work practically on a computer. This situation is very similar to a person taking up a theory exam on driving a car. He studies all aspects of this from a book (like gears, steering etc.) and gets the top score. But if you actually ask him to drive a car, he will most likely crash it. Even the little bit of practicals in B.Tech aren't of much use because in most institutes, the students are provided a 'lab manual' which contains all the programs in the prescribed 'syllabus', and so they only know how to write these programs. Ask them something different, and they're clueless.
Another problem is that, the skills required for an IT job is only around 5% of what you study in B.Tech. The over-emphasis on theory, combined with outdated teaching practices, make your B.Tech education almost pointless in terms of the skills required to perform well in an IT job.
Premium institutes like IITs and NITs may be slightly better (in terms of quality of education), but not by much. Also, without reasonably good scores, its almost impossible to get an IT job in India.
Considering all these aspects, I'd definitely suggest you to go abroad for technical education.
Good luck!
As a B.Tech graduate in Computer Science, I'll be frank with you here. Technical education in India, especially computer science, is nothing short of abysmal. There is too much emphasis on theory. Due to this, even candidates who score very well in B.Tech, struggle to perform even simple tasks in a job since their practical knowledge is quite poor. Scoring good marks in India is all about possessing excellent memory power. A person with great memory can simply memorize stuff in the prescribed textbook, write the same on his answer booklet, and easily score above 70% But a.person with good skills but poor memory ends up with poor grades, and is ignored by companies when it comes to employment.
Hope you understand,
Thank you
