Jee Mains is the examination which is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to most of the colleges and universities for engineering and Architecture courses at undergraduate level.
Whereas the JEE Advanced scores are accepted by Indian Institutes of Technology and some specific institutions for admission to Undergraduate engineering, and Architecture courses. The candidates who qualified jee mains are eligible for applying for jee advanced and can become eligible for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology.

JEE Advanced is a very tough and conceptually deep exam while JEE Main is relatively easier. Anyone can give JEE Main but only the JEE Main qualified students can give JEE Advanced. JEE Main is used for admission into NITs and GFTIs while JEE Advanced is used to give admission into the IITs.
