Ho aspirant,

Preparatory rank here means you did not get a rank in jee advanced rank list. The vacant seats for reserved categories are alloted to these rank students for admission to a preparatory course. You will be prepared for a year in IIT and after a year you will be declared pass or fail based on your performance. If you pass it you'll  be admitted to undergraduate course from next academic session.
