JEE is very important if you want to do engineering in India. You need a very high rank in JEE to get in IITs, IISc or NITs. (BITSAT is an other exam to get into BITs).
If you don't do well, you will end up in Tier 2 or 3 colleges where your life is screwed. It's very difficult to graduate from such colleges with reasonable knowledge in the subject. This is because such institutes usually just emphasis on spending time in record writing, rote learning, semester exams that go on for a month or two and dull peer group. Most of the placements from such institutes are in the IT sector. Since you have not understood engineering properly, you won't be able to clear other engineering exams such as GATE or ESE.
So please give a high importance to JEE if you are planning to do engineering in India. Try to get a rank within 10k in JEE mains so that you will get a seat in your state's NIT. (This is for general category home state). You can do this just if you study CBSE syllabus properly in class 11 and 12 and write mock tests. No need to waste time and money in coaching centres. Remember that JEE mains in far easier than GATE and ESE
Jee is not compulsory for engineering as many private colleges like SRM, VIT, COMEDK, LPU takes their own entrance test for admission no matters what u scored in jee.
So be comfortable and choose what is best for u... :)
Hello Shweta
Hello,
For getting admission into a college you have to be eligible for that college.Different colleges have different criterias of checking this eligibility. So Jee exam ie jee mains or jee advanced are just two engineering exams for government colleges like Nits,IIITs,IITs,etc. Some colleges take admissions on the basis of 12th marks whereas some conduct their own joint entrance exam. There are entrance exams of state level also.So jee is not compulsory to do engineering.
Best Wishes
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam. The entrance exam is the gateway for the admission to various B.Tech/B.E. programmes offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. So, JEE is an important exam to give if you hope to secure an admission in any of the aforementioned colleges.
JEE, however, cannot be considered compulsory, since there are several private colleges in India which offer engineering courses and do not look at your JEE scores. Apart from JEE, the other entrance exams you can give to get an admission in an engineering college can be your state's CET, or privately held exams such as VITEEE or NPAT.

Dear Sir/Ma'm, JEE exam is not compulsory for admission to all engineering colleges. Because many private engineering colleges like Kalingra Institute of Industrial Technology, SRM University, Vellore Institute of Technology, PES College and many more they have entrance exams of their own and JEE is not compulsory for admission to these colleges.
Jee main exam is compulsory for joining NITs, IITS, and some of the GFTIS. If you want join one of these colleges you have to appear for the Jee main exam. Apart from these most of the colleges give admission on the basis of JEE score. There are some other exams also conducted by private colleges for admission into those colleges.
