If you work hard than you will definitely achieve what you want. Mechanical engineering is good branch of engineering. Mechanical engineering have vast scope. You can go for Master in designing after giving CEED exam, you can work in designing without MDES but it will increase your pay packages if you do it from good Institute. You have good scope in public sector as well as government sector. Every year many psu companies Recruit mechanical engineers through gate exam and provide good pay packages. You can also go for higher studies and in research feild.
You can also work in private sector. There are many private companies recruit mechanical engineers from IIT, BITS, NIT,IIIT and from other good institutions. But your starting package in some private companies are less than psu companies. But your growth in private sector is exponential where as in public sector it's steady.
You can also work in management field after getting campus placement in management companies . Or after doing MBA.

For freshers average package is around Rs. 10,000-25,000 (It also depends on your skill, talent, knowledge and college) with experience you can easily get 40-45 lacs per annum.
